WNE-INDIA is a research-driven organization, established in 2014, dedicated to wildlife management and conservation through cutting-edge technologies and research works. Our team is a combination of young and experienced field staff from multidisciplinary background, an equipoise of grassroot level marginalized, backward class and scheduled tribe person to proper tech proficient person. This balance strengthens us to provide effective outcomes in our projects. Our approach is quite diversified where we are determined to save the wildlife through various conversational approaches and tech-friendly activities, while also focused upon the economic growth of the forest dwellers through natural resource management and ecological farming techniques.
KEY PROJECTS
​Securing the Gentle Giants of
East India

This project is initiated to reduce the human elephant conflict in the East Indian States (Jharkhand, Odisha & West Bengal), back in the year 2018. Major activities under this project are, as following,

Village level networking to understand elephant movement through tech-based services.​

Capacity building programs/ activities at the vulnerable stretches.

Support the Forest Department by preparing necessary habitat-wise conservation planning.

Scientific studies on elephant behavior, ecology and conflict pattern.

Technology based solutions to address the issue.
Bana Bandhu
This project was initiated back in the year 2019 to support the forest adjacent villagers' economical condition through generating ecofriendly alternative livelihood programs throughout India. Our major activities under this project are:

Introduction of MAPs (Medicinal and Aromatic Plants) cultivation in the forest adjacent villages and ensure their market linkage to increase their income.

Building 2 forest adjacent nurseries to conserve native species. So far, these two nurseries have distributed more than 2 lacs native tree saplings for plantation work.

Promote ecological farming to reduce the contamination of agri-based chemical wastes in the forest lands. So far, more than 100 ha, forest adjacent ​farming lands are engaged with this project.

Promote non timber forest procurement​ (NTFP) among the villagers and ensure their market linkages.

Sarpa Sathi

This project is initiated to reduce human snake conflict in the non forest areas along with spreading awareness on snakebite initiatives and snake related superstitious beliefs in the year of 2019. Major activities involved in this initiative include the following:

Snake rescue from 6 states of India. Over 10,000 snake rescues from human settlement have been successfully completed till now.

In this program, more than 53 rescuers are involved and they are contributing a major role towards mitigating the conflict.

Snake awareness program organize more than 500 schools and colleges apart from this, 200 awareness programs in various villages to spread awareness on snakes and snakebite initiatives.

​We have organized 10 training sessions on effective snake handling for forest department front line staff, along with a strong emphasis on individual safety measures during action.
Stop Illegal Trade
This project is initiated in 2022 to fights illegal wildlife trade through enforcement, awareness and community-driven conservation efforts. Major activities under this project are as follows:

Since 2018, we have actively worked to eliminate ritualistic hunting in the Jangalmahal area and by 2024, our efforts have led to an almost cessation of the practice, as reflected in the current year's forest departmental official data.

With our initiative, over 30 hunters have relinquished poaching and embraced sustainable livelihood.
-
Multiple raids have been carried out to stop poachers and wildlife traders from illegal hunting and trading in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Our efforts have led to the successful detention of 30 snake charmers and rescued over 100 serpent species.
-
Over 250 anti-snare walks are conducted in south-eastern Chotanagpur Plateau and northern Eastern Ghats, playing a vital role to reduce regular hunting in the area.​
